ST. CLARE SCHOOL STUDENTS GO ON MEMORABLE EXCURSION TO KOLKATA
In a remarkable experience that blended education, fun, and spiritual exposure, students and teachers of St. Clare School, Akuluto, embarked on an exciting excursion to Kolkata from 22nd July to 29th July 2025. A total of 30 participants, including both teachers and students, took part in this week long journey that turned out to be not just a change of scenery but a broadening of horizons for the young minds. The journey commenced on 22nd July as the group departed from Akuluto in the St. Clare School bus. With hearts full of excitement and bags packed with dreams, the students made their way to Dimapur and caught the Kamrup Express train at 3:00 am on 23rd July. The overnight train ride was filled with joyful chatter, games, and shared meals, giving a sense of togetherness and unity among all.

Exploring the City of Joy
Arriving in Kolkata, famously known as the City of Joy, the students wasted no time and began exploring its many historical and recreational landmarks. Among the major attractions visited were:
• Digha Beach: For many students, this was their first time seeing the sea. The gentle waves, the vast horizon, and the sea breeze offered a magical experience of nature's grandeur.
• Nicco Park: The students enjoyed thrilling rides and water games, experiencing the spirit of adventure in a safe and friendly environment.
• Science City: This visit turned out to be a real eye-opener. Students were fascinated by the interactive science exhibits, space displays, evolution zones, and 3D theatres. The hands-on experience helped bring textbooks to life and deepened their curiosity about the world of science.
• Kolkata Zoo: A visit to the zoo allowed students to observe animals from around the world, enriching their understanding of biodiversity and conservation.
• Mother Teresa's Tomb: One of the most touching moments of the tour was the visit to the tomb of St. Mother Teresa at the Missionaries of Charity. Students and teachers spent a quiet moment in prayer, drawing inspiration from the life of the saint who served the poorest of the poor with love and humility.
• Victoria Memorial & St. Paul’s Cathedral: These sites offered insights into the colonial history and architectural beauty of the city. The students were awed by the artistic grandeur and solemnity of these places, connecting with India's rich heritage.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

This excursion was more than just a break from school it was a journey of discovery. Many students were leaving Nagaland for the first time. For them, every moment was new: the train journey, the city traffic, the different food, the grand buildings, and the cosmopolitan culture of Kolkata. Such experiences are essential for shaping young minds. As educators emphasize, learning does not always happen inside the classroom. Exposure to new places, cultures, and environments nurtures critical thinking, adaptability, and a sense of wonder. It teaches students how to navigate new situations, respect diversity, and appreciate the broader world they are part of.

The excursion also allowed students to develop life skills from handling money during shopping to managing time, packing, following instructions, and taking responsibility for themselves and others in the group.

Fellowship and Fun
While the educational value was high, so was the fun quotient. The evenings were filled with shared laughter, storytelling, and snacks. The students bonded over simple joys eating together, taking selfies, bargaining in markets, or walking along Digha Beach at sunset. Teachers accompanying the students ensured safety and discipline while also being part of the merriment. Their constant guidance and warm companionship helped the children feel secure and free to enjoy the experience. The group also made time for spiritual reflection. At the St. Paul’s Church, a moment of prayer reminded the students of God's presence in all journeys. Whether on a beach or in a cathedral, they carried with them the values taught at St. Clare School gratitude, respect, and unity.

Importance of Excursions in Education
Excursions are not luxuries; they are powerful tools of experiential learning. As St. Augustine once said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” Educational tours:
• Reinforce classroom learning with real-world exposure.
• Foster confidence, independence, and curiosity.
• Promote social skills, teamwork, and responsibility.
• Inspire students to dream beyond their local environment.

Moreover, stepping out of comfort zones helps overcome fear. As the Principal of St. Clare School rightly pointed out, “Without risk, there can be no newness. Fear destroys life, but challenges make it beautiful.” The school took the courageous step of organizing this tour, and the outcome was nothing short of life-changing for the students.
A Word of Thanks

The school extends heartfelt gratitude to the parents who trusted and supported this initiative. Your cooperation and willingness to let your children explore the world will surely contribute to their growth. Thanks, are also due to the teachers who accompanied and guided the students with patience and care. Their presence ensured that the trip remained smooth, joyful, and deeply educational. Finally, to the students your enthusiasm, discipline, and spirit made this excursion a memorable success. May this journey continue to inspire you to seek knowledge, embrace new experiences, and grow into responsible citizens of the world.
