Relief Mission at Sri Lanka
Indian Capuchin friars of St. Pio Delegation belonging to Holy
Trinity Province Karnataka, India joined the relief Mission work
after Cyclone Ditwah caused havoc in Sri Lanka. The Cyclone began
its destruction from the 23rd to 29th of November 2025. Our Capuchin
brothers at Kandy responded quickly by giving shelter to the
families who were affected y landslides. On the 6th of December
brothers went to Rangala, Kandy to help the houses to clear the mud
and to clear out debris. 800 food packets and water bottles were
distributed to the affected people.
The entire country is affected by the cyclone. Many villages have
submerged with flood, leading to displacement, human life and
property loss, and severe disruption to daily life. There were many
landslides, collapse of bridges and roads damaged. According to the
government disaster team upto now 639 deaths are confirmed and 203
are missing. Capuchin friars are gathering support to provide help
to the affected people by way of distributing clothes, bedsheets,
dry ration and books.
