Annual Retreat – Shanti
Sadhana (FISI), 21-25 August 2023
The annual retreat for the Provincial Minister and Councillors,
Provincial Administration Team, Provincial Spiritual Assistant of OFS,
Provincial Vocation Director, Rectors, Directors of Formation Houses, Social
Work, and Capuchin Publication Trust, Guardians, Parish Priests, and
Principals was held at Shanthi Sadhana, Franciscan Institute of Spirituality
of India (FISI), Kengeri, Bangalore, from August 21 to 25, 2023. The
five-day retreat was animated in a significant way by Rev. Br Robin Daniel
OFM Cap., a friar from St Francis of Assisi Province. The entire retreat was
an in-depth reflection on the Rule of St Francis of Assisi as a part of the
preparation for the commemoration of the eighth Centenary of the Rule. Br
Maxim D Silva, the Provincial Administrator, warmly welcomed the animator,
Rev. Fr Robin Daniel OFM Cap., and the retreatants. The Provincial Minister,
Rev. Br John Alwyn Dias, introduced the preacher and extended him a floral
welcome.
A brief overview of the Primitive Rule, the Regula Non Bullata of 1221, and
the Regula Bullata of 1223 by the preacher set the tone for the retreat's
opening session, which took place at 9. 00 a.m. The animator provided
introspective and thought-provoking insights during the retreat, drawing on
various themes from St Francis's life and Rule. Holy Eucharist was held at
noon each day and presided over by the appointed friars. The retreat
animator provided a brief homily during the Eucharistic liturgy, offering
additional reflections on the retreat's subject in light of the readings of
the day.
Every evening there was an adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. During the
adoration, the preacher gave a short reflection to lead us into meditation
and introspection. It was indeed a graceful time for reflecting on the rule
and rejuvenating the Franciscan way of life. At the end of the annual
retreat, the Provincial Minister, Br John Alwyn Dias, Br Paul Melwyn, and Br
Vijay Kumar felicitated the preacher, and Br Andrew Jayaraj proposed the
vote of thanks. The retreat concluded with the Holy Eucharist presided over
by the Provincial Rev. Br John Alwyn Dias.
