SOCIAL ACTION SEMINAR ON
CONSTITUTION AND ITS PRINCIPLES
Social Action Seminar on Constitution and Its Principles, held by JPIC
Commission at DITH, Kengeri, Bengaluru on 18th & 19th August. Fr. Alwyn
Dias, Provincial Minister and President of JPIC Commission, Fr. Richard Pais,
Director of KROSS, Bengaluru, Fr. Vijay Kumar, Chairperson of JPIC, Fr.
Naveen D'Souza, Vice-Rector of DITH, Fr. Vinod Mascarenhas, Secretary of
JPIC and Sr. Jane were dignitaries for the inaugural session. The First
Session was the interaction on the Preamble –the basic structure and its
values by Ms. Poorna Ravishankar Researcher & Lawyer Alternative Law Forum.
Second Session was on Fundamental Rights (principles) and duties by
Venkatesh Nayak, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI). The third
session was “The Judiciary: the ultimate protector and interpreter of
fundamental rights of the citizens. “The writs enforce the rights of the
people & compel the authorities to fulfil their duties” by Ms. Shilpa Prasad
Advocate, Manthan Law.
On 19th August the session was taken by Mr. S. Balan Advocate &Trade
Unionist on Constitution at cross Roads (communal agenda & hatred) and how
can we address communal agenda & hatred. After the session, Fr. Arun Lobo
briefed about the JPIC interventions in different parts of Karnataka.
Participating in the group discussion the participants shared with each
other about the various threats faced by Christian community and how we can
spread the values and principles of constitution to others. It was followed
by the quiz by Fr. Arun and the concluding remarks by Fr. Anil Sequeira.
Finally Br. Vijay concluded the seminar with his words of gratitude to all
who have been instrument for the success of this two days seminar at Deena
Seva Ashram.
