Venafro Italy, Annual Feast of the Patron Saints
The Church of our Capuchin Friary in Venafro is a minor Basilica which preserves in its cripta the tombs of Sts. Nicandro, Marciano and Daria (Daria, the wife of Nicandro), the three Martyrs of the third century. They are also the Patrons of the City of Venafro and of our diocese as well. The annual feast in honour of these Martyrs which is celebrated with a three days function with pomp and flaunt, is a popular feature of the year. A month long preparation was done, beginning from 17th May, daily with an hour of prayer at 5.15 a.m. followed by Mass. The actual festal celebrations started on 16th June with the evening prayer presided over by the Bishop. On 17th June pilgrims flocked from all over of south Italy for Masses celebrated every hour and for the main Eucharistic Celebration with the Bishop as the main celebrant. A three hour long Procession in the evening, fun-fair, band and fireworks were the other outward glamour of the event. Br. Denis Prakash was our guest during these three days of celebration.
