SEMINAR ON ‘INDIAN LEGAL SYSTEM AND THE QUESTION OF JUSTICE’ Darshan Institute of Theology, Capuchin Theologate of Holy Trinity
Province, Karnataka had organized a half-day seminar on ‘Indian Legal System
and the Question of Justice’ on 21st of February. The resource person of the
day was, Justice John Michael D’ Cunha, the Honorable Judge of the Special
Court. The Key-note address was delivered by Fr. Vinod Mascarenhas, OFM Cap.
Fr. Jossy Fernandes, Rector of DITh, welcomed the gathering; Fr. Salvadore
Fernandes, the Dean of Studies introduced the speaker. Honorable Justice
Michael D’ Cunha spoke on the richness of the Indian Legal System. He said
though many a times it appears that justice is delayed, yet the Legal system
takes greater care that no innocent person is condemned. ‘No one should be
condemned unheard’ is one of the important principles of Indian Legal System
as well as the basic principle of natural justice. There were two sessions
of one hour each and an hour was set aside for clarifications and doubts.
Many religious brothers and sisters from and around Kengeri took an active
part in the Seminar, and strengthened their legal knowledge.
