Feast of Mary Immaculate, Venafro,
Italy The feast of Mary Immaculate, on December 8th, is celebrated
with great devotion in Italy. Our Capuchin Friary holds a special
ceremony of coronation (garlanding) of the statue of the BVM placed
at the top of our church belfry. This statue is on such a height
that it overlooks the entire town of Venafro as its protector. After
the mass, people gathered outside the church in great number.
This year, in the absence of the Superior, Fr. J.B. Sequeira the
Vicar had the privilege of accompanying the Mayor to the balcony of
the church and to lead the prayer of blessing. The Mayer gave the
keynote address. The fire brigade personnel, with the help of the
crane, performed the entire show, at the applause of the crowd.
