Social Action Seminar – 2015
“HUMAN RIGHTS AND ROLE OF RELIGIOUS”
Conducted by VIMUKTI – Commission for Justice Peace and Ecology at
Darshan Institute of Theology, Kengeri, Bangalore on 28th and 29th of August
These two days of social action seminar on the theme “Human Rights and the
Role of Religious” contributed a lot towards the provincial social action
ventures of the Capuchin Friars of Karnataka. Thanks to JPE commission
headed by Br. Arun Lobo OFM Cap, the root cause of this great event in the
Institute of Theology Bangalore, an awakening is palpable in the
participants of the two-day seminar.
The inaugural session was held at 9.30 am. The Br. Jossy Fernandes OFM Cap,
the rector delivered the inaugural speech mentioning about the importance of
the Human Rights today. The introductory speech was delivered by Br. Dolphy
Pias, the Provincial Minister of Karnataka Capuchin Province. He highlighted
the three important rights of every human person – Right to Life, Right to
Dignity and the Right to Develop.
At 10.00 am Rev. Fr. Ambrose Pinto SJ, Principal of St. Aloysius College
Bangalore, champion of the cause of Dalits and author of several books on
Dalit and Human Rights gave the Key-note address. He focused on the creation
of a new socio-economic order. He spoke about the patron of popular
movements, market economy, kinds of dominance and the Franciscan response as
the new revolution.
The following are the Resource Persons of these two days seminar:
Prof. Babu Mathew, Human
Right Activist; National School of India. And the National Director of
Action aid spoke on “Human Rights: Concepts, Provision, violation and
Response”.
Dr. Shubha Chacko, Director
of Aneka, Indian Human Rights Defender enlightened the audience on the
theme “Religion and Human Rights: Dilemma and Dialogue”.
Mr. Chand Peer, Human
Rights Trainer, Program Officer, Indian Social Institute Bangalore dealt
with the contemporary challenges before the Human Rights Defenders with
special reference to Hindutva Movement.
Mr. T.J. Abraham, Social
and Anti-corruption Activist spoke on the theme “Role of Religious in
defending Human Rights”. He encouraged the participants to fight for
justice, peace and equality and work for the spread of Christianity.
Sharing his personal experiences of Christ’s miracles in his life he
bore witness to his faith.
With a short evaluation the
seminar ended at 4.30 pm on August 29, 2015.
